  Ferocious howling winds
Call to the north pole bringing
Beautiful snow
To southern Ontario
Cleanse the landscapes' dirty mess.

A loving grandson
Will fill his grandma’s heart with
Much deep love and joy.

My Beloved Grandson

I awoke on the day of my grandson's birthday and for the past few weeks I had been reflecting on how FAST the time had gone and in no time at all, from birth to his 15th birthday!  Every stage of his life was a joy to be a part of as I watched him grow and change not only physically but emotionally and mentally. I suddenly realize how close the 'next' steps were and the changes this would bring to each family member.

It was the realization that we were on a presipus of a turning point and things would
never be the same.   My 'little boy' was gone.  How quickly time went when we were all
having fun and now, he'd become a young man.  How I miss the times of the echoes I still
hear "Come on, Grandma!  Make me .."   an astronaut costume, Spiderman costume,
Batman, or  a Knight costume  ....and the sword would be flying as he madly defeated some 'bad guy', dinosaur or monster to protect me. Gone are the days of bedtime stories "from out of your mouth Grannie" as he didn't like book stories.

It was with a sad heart that I sat down at my computer early that morning, and this poem just 'wrote itself' as 'they' say. Brought a lot of tears to my eyes and heart, more from realization that the past was 'gone' and how much he'd brought the sunshine into my life right from the day he was born.  I'd nick-named him 'Sunshine' and would sing / hum the well known "You Are My Sunshine".   As he got older, he didn't ask for me to 'sing' to him unless he was very tired or not feeling well, then he'd say "Grannie, sing my Sunshine song".

This poem was a sad 'goodbye' to those days and at the same time, a happy anticipation
to the days ahead of the sunshine they would be bringing.

              My Beloved Grandson

Your mother,
My daughter,
Entered my heart
Forever etched with
Pride and joy in my life.
A long time dream completed.

My baby girl,
With big blue eyes,
Quickly grew from,
A Little Princess to young lady.
School days and graduation
All too soon only memories before she left.

Your mother,
My daughter,
Gave birth and placed
A baby boy in my eager arms.
July sixth a precious day
Forever written in my heart.

My daughter's son,
My grandson,
My darling Sunshine,
As if in time lapse,
Grew from baby to young man,
Fifteen years flew much too rapidly!

Your mother,
My daughter,
One day your child
You'll place in her arms.
Only then will she understand
The precious gift of a grandchild.
